Hello and WELCOME! to my very own BLOG.
If you did not guess already, this will be my blog for...you guessed it (hopefully by now) POLAND!
My clever name for the blog may have confused some of you.*
Anyway, I now have four days until departure! I leave THIS Thursday at 3:40pm. I need to pack still...well I mean....finish packing. I need to find out about my cell phone coverage so I can call people while I am abroad! Speaking of people, if you'd like me to send you a postcard while I am there, please email me your address! Now, I am not making any promises, because it may be expensive, but hey, I say why not just give me your address anyway?! My email is just my first and last name @gmail.com.
So far here is what I know about my host families (I will be staying with 3):
Muni-- Muni is the English teacher at the school where I will be teaching. He is from Sri Lanka which means he cooks a lot of rice and curry (he told me this). He has lived in Poland for 33 years and has a Polish wife named Izabella. He has two daughters that are my age, studying in Warsaw. He also has a dog named Mika.
Jozef-- Jozef has five kids; three are in "college" and two are at home. Tomasz (Pronounced "Tomash) and Ewa (Eh-va), ages 16 and 15 respectively. Jozef speaks very little English, while his kids speak a lot of English. He is the religion teacher at the school. I am hoping by the time I get here, I will have learned some Polish from Muni and Izabella!
Katarzyna-- Kasia (which is Katie in Polish) has a husband and one son, Mikołaj (Mee-ko-why). Mikołaj is 15 years old. Kasia is the Principal at the school where I will be teaching. I talked to her last Wednesday or Thursday over Facebook chat! She seems so wonderful. She gave me A LOT of information about where I'm staying and what I'll be doing. I feel so much better about going now that I know more about it!
So, that's what I know so far. I will be in a town called Ciechanów (chech-a-nov) which has about 50,000 people. It is in North Central Poland, 60 miles away from the capital, Warsaw.
I'll keep everyone updated through my blog. Check in for updates and pictures!
*I will probably include sarcasm in every entry.
